As you may know, the next Genetic and Evolutionary Computation Conference (GECCO) will take place in Málaga this July 2025. Gabriel Luque and I are proud to serve as Local Chairs, working alongside an amazing team led by Bogdan Filipič as General Chair and Gabriela Ochoa as Editor-in-Chief. Hosting a conference of this stature is an exciting challenge, and we are all working hard to ensure it lives up to the highest standards.
In the coming weeks, there will be more updates about the conference (the Call for Papers is already out). For now, we wanted to share something small but close to our hearts: the GECCO2025 logo. The conference’s signature gecko has been personalized—big thanks to Gerardo Valencia, the graphic designer!—with several details paying homage to Málaga. For instance, the green and purple colors represent the flag of Málaga, and the cubist design of the gecko is a tribute to Málaga as the birthplace of Pablo Ruiz Picasso. Can you spot the third distinctive feature? It’s one of the most iconic symbols of Málaga…
We look forward to welcoming you to Málaga this summer!
